Radio Goftogoo’s "Without Scrawl" had a phone call interview with Ahmad Fatemi Nejad, the Iranian expert on international affairs, regarding the debates raised on Iran-China cooperation.

Ahmad Fatemi Nejad pointed to the objections made by media and in cyberspace against the 25-year cooperation agreement concluded between Iran and China, as well as Iran’s relationship with Russia, and spoke about the reasons behind such objections; “One of the reasons goes back to the Iranians mentality because in the contemporary period, We’ve been hit hard by some superpowers, and this naturally leads to an anti- great powers approach in Iran's foreign policy.”

He also spoke about other reasons for oppositions towards Iran cooperation with China and Russia; “The West stands as China and Russia's rival. They want to win over China and Russia by creating an atmosphere, and not allow these countries to be widely and internationally discussed.”

The international affairs expert continued; “One of the concerns of the West about Iran's cooperation with China, as well as with Russia, is the sanctions’ inefficiency, because this kind of cooperation can create economic openings and lead to the failure of sanctions.”

Regarding media and social propaganda against this cooperation, he said; “Such build-ups regarding the sale of the Iranian islands and the cheap sale of oil come from Western sources, including Reuters and the BBC. These media propaganda are being expanded in cyberspace to influence public opinion.”

In this interview with Radio Goftogoo, Fatemi Nejad spoke of ambiguity in Iran-China cooperation document; “Of course, the text of the cooperation was published in the previous government and it was repeatedly emphasized that this agreement is a general framework under which executive and operational agreements are to be made. A few days ago, we saw that the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs announced that this agreement has already entered into force.”

The international affairs expert emphasized; “Of course, lack of official transparency in the Iran-China cooperation agreement is one of the grounds for spreading rumors about this agreement. But this is partly inevitable since the Iranian economy is subject to sanctions, and in as far as sanctions are there, the Americans are desperately seeking to block and punish the activities of foreign companies working with Iran.”
